Lesson objectives: |
The main objectives of this lesson are to develop students' skills and knowledge of the language so that they can comprehend English and express themselves in the language in various contexts.
Specific aspects of the translation theory and practice will be introduced. This course is concerned with developing the student's ability to deal with the concepts used in scientific discussion as well as writing in English. Most of these structures are practiced during communication, reading text and thematic interests of science and technology specialists. Students not only read and understand the texts but must also translate them from English into Mongolian and from Mongolian into English using a dictionary. Students will translate texts connected with a technical context. Translation practice will increase the vocabulary of the students. At the end of the course lexical minimum of the students will reach between 2000-2500 words.

Evaluation |
The maximum points earned by the best student will be considered equal to100 by the end of the semester. The evaluation criteria are as follows:
Attendance 15 points
Progress Test I 10 points
Progress Test II 15 points
Individual Work 30 points
Final Test 30 points

The students will translate letters, reviews, and reports following the topics connected to technical fields. At this level students will not simply translate sentences and texts they are supposed to translate orally. At this level students will study simple information. During the semester students will be required to translate several texts on the topics given by the teacher. The length of the texts will be not less than 30-40 sentences (approximately 150-200 words). Students will translate texts connected with their studies from English into Mongolian and vice versa. Specific aspects of translation theory and practice will be introduced. Oral and written forms of translation are practiced at this level. Translation practice will increase the vocabulary of the students. The teacher will provide students with texts including all fields of science and technology. Each text includes special engineering science and technology fields to enable students to be familiar with styles of professional writing. The translated materials will be sent by e-mail and will be checked and evaluated by the teachers. Grading penalties will apply for overdue assignments.
